Polyxenis & the Gents, Greek Music Family Ensemble
Polyxeni Theologidis' journey into Greek traditional, Rebetika and contemporary music has spanned three decades. She has performed as a vocalist, plays guitar and percussion, and composes her own music, making appearances at concerts and world music events in Australia and, since 2018, the US, where she currently resides with her family in San Diego. She teaches Greek song, language and dance and recently performs with her sons Iason and Filippos Tsironis.
Having grown up with a strong connection to their Greek heritage and the traditions of Greek music, Iason Tsironis began studying the bouzouki at age 6, training first on the baglama, which was just the right size for his hands at the time. He also plays the guitar and laouto and is a regular musician within the Greek folk dance scene accompanying his brother, as well as performing his favorite laika, Rebetika and contemporary tunes with Polyxeni & the Gents and other local musicians.
Filipos Tsironis focused on studying the violin from the age of 8 when the family realized they would benefit from a violin in the band. His great love in music is in Smyrneika and Rebetika and in recent years he has developed his vocal repertoire both as a lead vocalist and in harmonies. He plays some guitar and bouzouki although his main focus is the violin. Filippos has established himself as a regular violinist in recent years amongst the Greek folk dancing groups of Southern California (FDF) and loves playing music from the Cyclades and Greece.
